Japanese Kanpachi Bechin Velveteen Fabric
Kanpachi Betchin is a 100% cotton twill velveteen made in Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is an elegant fabric with a soft sheen that is subtle, yet eye-catching.
Velveteen is woven with an extra weft that forms a pile. Once that pile is cut, sheared and finished, the surface settles into a short, velvety nap. Iwata has been making it this way for generations.
The name kanpachi comes from an old Japanese unit of weight. A single bolt of greige cloth (woven but not yet dyed or finished) once weighed 1 kan 800 monme, about 6.75 kg.
Formaldehyde-free. No azo dyes.
Note: colour may transfer to whites through friction.
